Got a story for ya Ags....
In 1981, through the generosity of Mary Alice & Bob Frymire '45, the illuminated letters on the Kyle Field press box lit up for the first time. These letters served as a beacon in the night to identify Kyle Field. Many Aggies recall seeing these lights driving in to College Station or flying in to Easterwood airport.
Sometime in the mid-nineties, the lights became non-operational and have not been lit since. We are a non-profit group that wants to see Kyle Field light up the sky again! All donations and proceeds will be used to remove, completely renovate, and reinstall the lights using new LED technology that is easier to maintain and cheaper to operate. Any extra funds will be endowed into a fund to maintain the operation of the lights.
If you would like to see these 18 feet tall, 10 feet wide letters light up the night sky again, we ask for your help in any way you can contribute: be it donations, helping out with the project, or being a corporate sponsor! Every little bit helps!

A word from Bill Byrne
Kevin and Andrew, here is the best information we have right now. Before we can start the process, we must have the money in hand so we can go thru Physical Plant. I’d suggest that you get the legal requirements completed before you go much further. Once all the money is in hand, we can go thru the State of Texas bid process to have Physical Plant get you the cost breakdowns you’ve requested. Sorry about the extra steps, but when you do work on State of Texas facilities, there are lots of rules and regulations to make certain things are done right and that the money is in place. Good luck with the fund raising, but please understand, this is your project, it is not an athletic dept fund raiser. bill
The total cost to complete the letter restoration is approximately $150,000 according to estimates by the Aggie Athletics Department and an independent contractor.
All money collected from your generous donations will be used to support this project only. Our efforts are supported by Texas A&M Athletic Director, Bill Byrne and have his approval; however, this is not a fundraiser for Aggie Athletics or any of its affiliates.
This project is completely operated by the non-profit entity, AgsForKyle, and is run completely by former students with help and support from current students and fans of Texas A&M.
Once our organization has raised the total cost of the renovation, Bill Byrne will arrange for TAMU to begin restoring the letters on the southwest face of Kyle Field.
If we do not reach our goal, We will hold a poll on our website to vote on what project within the 12th Man Foundation the money will be given to.
